Her Royal Highness's Annual Christmas Carol Concert Honours Charity Helpers

Her Royal Highness has organised her annual Yuletide celebration at the iconic London venue, with guests including royals, celebrities and local heroes who have helped their communities.

The large audience will enjoy a mix of traditional hymns, orchestral pieces, and literary excerpts from stars like Kate Winslet and Chiwetel Ejiofor.

Focusing on Love and Generosity

The theme of the concert, held in the candle-lit Abbey on Friday afternoon, is kindness and showing love to others.

In the audience are Anna and Jonathan Cordiner, whose young girl was lost to a brain tumour, and who established a foundation, a charity called Kayleigh's Wee Stars, to support families who have a child with a terminal illness.

"The dedication, empathy, and kindness you show, often quietly and unspoken, and without any thought of thanks or praise, make an extraordinary difference to the circumstances of individuals," the Princess expressed in a message before the carol service.

Carefully Paced Reappearance

The royal has been undertaking her own steady comeback to public life following her health challenges and treatment, in November making her major oration since 2023, in which she reflected on recognising the "selfless, commonly overlooked efforts of carers".

Musical Talent and Access

Those coming to the Abbey can listen to young musicians backed by the Future Talent charity, established in part by the Duchess of Kent to increase availability of instrumental training.

An 18-year-old named Carys Wood, who performs on the trumpet and is from southwest Wales, has been assisted by the charity, with grants helping towards instruments, tuition, and transportation expenses - and she said it was "amazing" to be taking part in the concert.

"Pursuing music is often costly," she stated. She is now studying at the Royal Academy of Music, and added that "all people deserve the chance" to develop their musical skills.

A Sisterly Duo

Carys's 11-year-old sister, Eliza, who performs on the brass instrument, will likewise attend the Abbey. "I never imagined I would perform in front of so many notable figures," she said.

Among the guests will be representatives of different generations.

That will feature nine-year-old Saphia Turner, honouree of a prize for youthful altruism, who produces drawings and undertakes charity feats to raise money for food banks.

Seasonal Ambiance and Entertainment

The Abbey has been adorned with specially made wreaths, with TV cook Mary Berry and florist Simon Lycett assisting in their creation.

The musical lineup includes recording artist Katie Melua, choristers from Westminster Abbey and a nautical singing ensemble, the Fisherman's Friends, who said the invitation to sing was "the icing on the cake for us."

The Together at Christmas carol concert will be aired by television on December 24th.
